  1. This is a story of how my mother encouraged me. She died last year and I miss her greatly but she left me with a legacy of encouragement in my role as a mother. As she had five children she knew all about the demands on the time, energy and resources of mothers and whenever I felt overwhelmed she would always have an encouraging word. She had hanging on the wall in the kitchen of my childhood home a decorative plate with the words, “My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy” on it. Knowing that she never judged or criticised but always had a word of kindness for me was incredibly encouraging.

  2. Most of us, swimming against the tides of trouble the world knows nothing about, need only a bit of praise or encouragement – and we will make the goal. ~Jerome Fleishman
